Welcome to OXIS Calibration
In 2018, OXIS classification was put forth by Dr. Kirthiga, Dr. Muthu, and it has four categories - the O type, the X type, I type, and the S type. This website will assist all the global researchers, academicians, clinicians, health workers, and policy makers to get calibrated and seek appropriate knowledge about the inter-proximal classification for primary molars. To date, studies carried out in different populations (India, South Korea, United Arab Emirates) have revealed variance in OXIS contacts. Muthu MS et al. 2021- retrospective study - examined 1102 contacts of children and reported the ‘S’ contact (OR - 147.4) has maximum risk for approximal caries development followed by I, X, and O contacts.
Kirthiga et al. in a prospective study has also shown S type contact (OR - 7.7) to be most susceptible to proximal caries (unpublished data). It has been proven that the establishment and documentation of OXIS contacts has created a fundamental change in dental caries etiology. And this needs to be further explored globally and to do so, we have developed this website, will help in optimizing the efficiency of calibration and provide repositories.
